Nevena Gluscevic
11 Premier Assistant Coach
bio
My name is Nevena Gluscevic, to many known as Coach Nev. I am a parent of two RVA volleyball athletes and an active member of the RVA community. With eight years of experience as a professional volleyball player and over 20 years of experience managing people, I coach players on proper form, performance-enhancing techniques, and sportsmanship.
My volleyball career began in 1990 and lasted for about 8 years. I played as a middle blocker for the Serbian team Postar while pursuing secondary and post-secondary education. Unfortunately, my career ended due to a shoulder injury.
After relocating to the U.S. and earning a B.S. degree in Networking Technology from Arizona State University and a Master of Information Systems from the University of Phoenix, I embarked on a long-lasting career in information technology. For the past 15 years, I have managed computer systems, projects, and personnel for the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind.
I have been coaching Middle School Volleyball at Great Hearts North Phoenix Prep for 3 years, working with grades 5-8 and leading their top A team comprised of both 7th and 8th graders, as well as assisting with JV. Additionally, I have been coaching the 12 Dragons RVA team and assisting with the Revolution Development Program (RDP). Throughout my coaching journey, I have continually honed my skills to better develop young athletes. I hold certifications through NFHS as a Level 1, 2, and 3 Head Coach, NFHS Middle School Head Coach 1, Certified Interscholastic Coach (CIC), and Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC). Furthermore, I am certified through the Art of Coaching Volleyball as a Head Coach Level 1 and 2, as well as a Sports Performance Coach.
Having been both an athlete and a coach, I understand the profound psychological impact a coach can have on young athletes. My personal experiences provide authentic insights into how young volleyball players feel and deep knowledge about the sport. As a coach, I prioritize building leadership upon the core values of personal growth, integrity, grit, loyalty, commitment, and empathy to foster the long-term success of our athletes. I also integrate my business management strategies into coaching, leveraging qualities such as goal setting, authenticity, active listening, and motivational leadership, which are particularly valuable in coaching young volleyball players. I am confident that I can enhance the performance of first-time volleyball players while maintaining high levels of motivation. I am a positive, enthusiastic, supportive, focused, goal-oriented, patient, and clear communicator who cultivates skills, team cohesion, and personal and leadership development through sports
